Garifuna Heritage Month
Members of our organization participated this past Wednesday, April 17, in the day of advocacy and legislative visits of the Garifuna People in Washington DC. Under the leadership of #Casa Yurumein; we are committed to accompanying processes that are of collective benefit to our People, we firmly believe that involvement is the first step to see positive changes.
Event in Geneva - Switzerland
We are proud to have nominated and endorsed the participation of Jenifer Vera, so that she can represent us today at such an important event for Afro-descendants in Geneva, Switzerland. We believe in Vera's capacity and leadership, we are convinced that it is the young people of this era who will concretely promote the development, recognition and inclusion agenda that we have as Garifunas, so that these global agendas of justice promoted by the United Nations are taken into account.
Visit of the President
As an organization, we are proud to have been present on such a historic day for our Garifuna People. Being one of the organizations leading this process with the Executive commits us further to working for the development of the group.
Mobile Consulate
Last March 24, 2024, thanks to the efforts of our organization, a mobile consulate was held in the Bronx on March 16 and 17, in which more than 400 Guatemalans from the area were assisted with their consular procedures; we also actively participated as volunteers in the two-day process; thanks to the office of County President #Vanessa Gibson for supporting us with the physical space. Thank you Consulate of Guatemala in NY for the great openness to our community and organization.
Guatemalan Independence Day
Our organization actively participated in all the activities carried out within the framework of the celebration of Guatemalan Independence Day in New York & New Jersey.
Documentary
One more year participating in this important event for our Garifuna People, this year part of our contribution will be a Documentary that tells our historical context as a People and the meaning of YURUMEIN. Stay tuned, it is a project that we believe will be of great benefit to changing the narrative about us and our history.
